The Vision
Vania Suisola is an Italian-born, Alicante-based ceramic sculptor whose acclaimed work—recently recognized with the Premio Pieza Única at the NACE Fair for her piece "Metamorfosis" — explores organic forms, gestures, and the deliberate use of the void. As a close friend and admirer of her art, my goal was to build a digital portfolio that matched the tactile, quiet architecture of her hand-built earthenware. The website needed to be a minimalist digital gallery: fast, unobtrusive, and hyper-focused on letting the imagery of her sculptures breathe.
The Challenge
Art portfolios often suffer from heavy image payloads and clunky navigation, which can detract from the viewing experience. I needed to build a highly performant, responsive platform that could seamlessly display high-resolution images of her 3D sculptures in a 2D space, ensuring that the light, shadow, and texture of her work translated perfectly to the screen.
An AI-Powered Workflow
To bring this vision to life efficiently, I adopted a cutting-edge, AI-driven development workflow. By leveraging Claude and Lovable, I was able to rapidly prototype layouts, iterate on design concepts, and generate boilerplate code. This AI-assisted approach allowed me to spend less time on routine setup and more time fine-tuning the bespoke UI/UX elements that make the site feel unique.
Technical Implementation
The architecture of the site was built for speed, scalability, and smooth interactions:
TanStack Start & React: I utilized TanStack Start to power the React application, ensuring optimal routing, server-side rendering capabilities, and a lightning-fast initial load—crucial for a media-heavy site.
Tailwind CSS: For styling, Tailwind CSS allowed me to build a pixel-perfect, fully responsive, and minimalist design system. The utility-first approach made it easy to maintain the exact spacing and subtle typography required for an elegant art gallery feel.
Custom Artwork Sliders: A standout feature of the site is the bespoke artwork sliders. Built using specialized React components, these fluid sliders allow users to intuitively swipe and navigate through Vania's selected works and recent exhibitions. The transitions are buttery smooth, keeping the user immersed in the art.
The Result
The final product is a serene, high-performance web experience that captures the essence of Vania’s philosophy: working the clay until it learns to hold its own breath. The clean architecture and intuitive artwork sliders provide a frictionless browsing experience, giving this award-winning sculptor the premium digital presence her work deserves.
